My [info]potterpuffs commission is finished.

OMG OMG OMG )

As I specifically asked Naomi not to put a watermark on it, you may use it to make icons, wallpaper, etc. (Feel free to share them with me.) However, you must be willing to credit [info]potterpuffs.

I'm totally flipping out. I wound up scoring a coveted [info]potterpuffs commission. I have seriously been going after one of these for two years. I am so excited; you have no idea!

I've requested DH spoilery-ish, but not exactly... )

perchance to dream

As I just said in a comment to a friend, my second biggest regret from college is that I didn't train myself to go to bed before three in the morning. Nine years later and it's still a tremendous struggle to get to bed at a reasonable hour. The earliest I can manage is midnight and even then I toss and turn for ages.

I've been having Harry Potter dreams lately, and I've been dreaming a lot about college too. Last night's dream involved both. Almost everyone I went to school with were cast as Harry Potter characters and had to go live at Hogwarts. What an awesome reality TV show that would make. My college roommate cried because she was sorted into Hufflepuff. She tried to get me to tell them she belonged in Ravenclaw but I told her the Sorting Hat knew best, ha ha. I was sorted into Gryffindor and cast as Lily Evans (all the generations were mixed up and there at the same time). I thought it was hysterical because I totally expected to be in Ravenclaw. I am so not brave in real life. Two of my best friends were cast as Hermione and Luna. I bet they can guess which of them was which. Another one of my best friends couldn't participate because she couldn't do magic on Fridays. (She's an Orthodox Jew.) She was mad so they finally cast her as someone minor. I kept jerking awake then falling back to sleep and continuing the dream. I almost never do that. Maybe somebody slipped a Patented Dream Charm into my dinner.

i've been sorted

I swear this is the last quiz for a good long time, but I've never been sorted so I thought I'd give it a try.

i'm in ravenclaw!

Well you're one smart little cookie, aren't you? You're wise and clever, and just love to use your wit and learning to your advantage, and sometimes even the disadvantage of others. Well, nerd, there IS a world outside of that copy of 'Hogwarts: A History', you know.. Oh don't worry! We all know you're special. You're just a naturally good learner, right? Not too much is known about your house right now.. Wow! Not only are you intellegent, you're also an enigma!

The other night I had a dream that most of my family and a lot of our friends were Sorted. In my dream, my fiance was called up before I was. He was put into Ravenclaw right away. So when it was my turn I was a nervous wreck and kept saying "Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw," but the hat was really torn between that and Gryffindor. Finally it did what I wanted but it felt like I was on that stool forever. My mom and dad were put in Hufflepuff!

first entry

Hello! How are you? I am [info]trobairiz, the definition of which is complex and can be found here. If you Google "trobairiz," this journal is the first link that comes up. So much for anonymity. I guess that means I have to spell-check everything so I don't look like an idiot.

I shipped pairings ten years before I even heard of the internet. My first OTP, when I was in the third grade, was Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder from the Little House on the Prairie series. I started to ship two characters (Lou Emma and Tommy) from a really obscure trilogy called Those Miller Girls when I was ten. In middle school, I focused on Christine/Erik from The Phantom of the Opera.

Somewhere along the way I added Anne/Gil and Teddy/Emily from the works of L.M. Montgomery and Amy/Laurie from Little Women to the mix. In high school I had enough zomg!boy drama! of my own to worry about anyone else's, but when I went online for the first time in the fall of '95 and met other folks out there who also spent an inordinate amount of time pairing up characters from books and TV shows I was ecstatic.

My first foray into actual internet fandom involved Caroline Duffy and Richard Karinsky from Caroline in the City, a TV show that was my obsession through most of college. I lurked on a few other early fanfic sites for a bit but there wasn't much out there for me so I lost interest.

Harry Potter came out when I was in grad school. I became obsessed even though I was too busy tearing my hair out with the amount of work I had to do any serious shipping. I've paired R/Hr from the beginning and always thought the idea of H/G was cute. I started to really like Severus Snape around book three. I thought he could have definitely benefited from therapy (or a Livejournal) but I never actually thought he was evil. I started shipping Sev/Lily way before it was cool, and although I've been feeling quite smug and ahead of the game lately, I'm also enjoying all of the artwork and fics brought on by their sudden popularity as a pairing.

Lately, I've been spending a lot more time in the world of fandom, slowly feeling my way through and figuring out what everything means. Since I am new to anything but lurking, please be patient with me. I fully expect my first, oh, million or so entries in this thing to begin, "How do I..." or "What does ____ mean?"

I have another, fairly public LJ that I've kept up for over five years now but I recently decided I wanted to keep it separate from my squeeing. Not that I'm exactly ashamed, mind, but trying to explain my hobby to my fiancé’s colleagues (many of whom are friends, and read my other journal) over cocktails at the national conference we attend yearly might get a little weird and embarrassing. Although I fully expect to accidentally comment over there while logged in as this name in under a week, so I suspect they'll find me eventually. Hi folks!

I like pink shiny things and happy endings. That's reflected in both my Kitchenaid stand mixer and the kind of fic I read and write. There's a lot out there that I'm frankly not interested in reading but I fully support anyone's right to read and write what they choose. I am, on the whole, courteous, friendly and helpful, and I expect to be treated as I treat others.

I give constructive criticism when asked for my opinion. I'm polite and supportive, but I'm not going to sugarcoat things and make you think you're the next Jane Austen, either. Oh, and I do expect everyone past the third grade to be able to use apostrophes correctly and to be able to differentiate between "your" and "you're," "its" and "it's," "they're" and "their."

I give credit or acknowledgement to everything I discuss, use, take (with permission) or recommend. If I have made an error in crediting my source, please approach me courteously and I'll be happy to take whatever steps necessary to correct the problem.
